Summary of the contracting process

The Dumfries and Galloway Council, a regional local authority in Dumfries, UK, has initiated a planned procurement process for the "MBT Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Treatment and Disposal" project. The project entails the treatment and disposal of roughly 30,000 tonnes per annum of RDF generated from Municipal Solid Waste, starting in late 2024. The contracting authority aims to award a 5-year contract (3 years with a possible 2-year extension) for this service.

This procurement opportunity in the services category at the planning stage presents growth prospects for businesses involved in waste management and environmental services. Companies adept in RDF treatment and disposal services, with capacity for large-scale operations and experience working with municipal waste streams, would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The projected start date, set for late 2024, requires bidders to align their capabilities to meet the Council's requirements for the long-term RDF disposal solution.
