Summary of the contracting process

The School Age Childcare Early Adopting Communities Project, initiated by Clackmannanshire Council, is an endeavour aimed at continuing the development of community-based school age childcare services in Alloa South and East Clackmannanshire, with plans to expand to additional communities. This project aligns with the Scottish Government's Child Wellbeing Partnership initiative and is classified under the services category with a focus on childcare activities. The procurement process is currently at the award stage, following amendments to extend the service period from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2026. The most recent contract update was signed on 20th August 2024, reflecting a contract value of £10,649,523.90. Key stakeholders include local children’s care and activity providers, along with employability and family support services throughout Clackmannanshire, ensuring broad community engagement.

The procurement presents significant business growth opportunities for service providers specialising in childcare and family support services. Businesses such as nurseries, youth community projects, and social enterprises are well-suited to engage with this project, benefiting from the direct contracts awarded to named providers due to technical requisites. The project's expansion into additional areas in Clackmannanshire and focus on vulnerable priority groups provides an avenue for enriched community involvement and service development. SMEs, in particular, can leverage the Scottish Government's funding to enhance outreach and service delivery during both the school term and holiday periods, thereby facilitating business growth and broader economic development within the region.
