Summary of the contracting process

North Lanarkshire Council has concluded a contract for IT and technology-related electrical waste management services. The council, located in Motherwell, has engaged Re-Tek UK Ltd as the sole supplier for the disposal, recycling, and repurposing of ICT equipment and various ad-hoc electrical goods from its sites. This award marks the completion of an open procurement procedure which began on 5th July 2024 and ended with signing the contract on 30th October 2024. The contract is active and valued at an estimated £150,000. The service involves the uplift, recycling, and re-purposing of electrical waste from over 500 council sites, with the expectation that up to 11,000 assets will be disposed of annually. This initiative includes enforcing a robust Staff Buy Back scheme and delivering broader community benefits.

This project creates an excellent opportunity for businesses in the waste management sector, particularly those with expertise in electronic waste recycling and asset disposal. Companies specialised in sustainable practices and community-focused services are well-suited to compete in similar tenders. Moreover, the requirement for a sole supplier indicates a significant, consistent workload, which could offer stable business growth. The estimated £150,000 contract value, coupled with the council's income generation expectations from the transferred items, underscores the financial opportunities embedded in this agreement. Furthermore, firms that can demonstrate strong supply chain management, quality assurance, and a track record of large-scale project delivery will find themselves in a favourable position to thrive in similar future procurements.
