Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, initiated by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL), involves a project for the detailed design and construction of seven vehicle and passenger carrying ferries. This contracting authority, located in Port Glasgow, is focused on the maritime transport sector in the UK region (UKM). The process, which follows a selective procurement method under a restricted procedure, reached the award stage with completion, as the contract was awarded to Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in March 2025 for a value of £147,540,000. The tender initially started in August 2024, with important deadlines including a submission extension to 26th August 2024 to fit the project timeline.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses particularly in the maritime transport industry. The detailed design and build contract for multiple ferry vessels can foster growth for businesses skilled in shipbuilding, marine engineering, and related technical fields. Large-scale businesses, particularly those with previous experience in designing and constructing ships of similar complexity, will find themselves well-suited to engage in such opportunities. The contract also encourages participation from companies willing to invest in community benefits within the Clyde & Hebrides region, offering additional prospects for businesses with a focus on social responsibility and community engagement.
