Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process overseen by Angus Council involves the award of a contract titled "Award of Barry Burn Grass Cutting 2024," within the works industry category, specifically focusing on construction and landscaping work. The contract concerns the maintenance of the Barry Burn Flood Prevention Scheme's grassed/vegetated flood banks in Carnoustie. Although awarded in August 2024, the announcement was backdated, bringing attention to the pertinent details. The buyer is Angus Council, located at Angus House, Forfar, DD8 1AN. At the award stage, the contracting authority selected DUNCAN&CAMERON from Carnoustie to undertake the task of grass cutting to maintain the flood efficiency of the scheme's embankments, ensuring ecological considerations by conducting surveys with an ecologist. Key actions from the contractor were expected throughout the year, indicating an active contract status.

This tender presents opportunities for businesses specialising in landscaping, construction, and ecological maintenance. With grass cutting being a primary requirement, companies with expertise and equipment suited for maintaining large landscape areas would be ideal contenders. The need to manage ecological concerns by coordinating with an ecologist also suggests opportunities for businesses involved in environmental consultancy. The procurement method employed was tendering, with the contract valued between £15,850 and £16,867.78, signalling potential profitability for local enterprises, particularly those proficient in site maintenance and landscaping within the specified locality of Carnoustie and surrounding regions. The selection of DUNCAN&CAMERON as the supplier highlights the competitive nature of bids, having received two valid bids during the process.
