Ageing Well Edinburgh
Notice Description
1.1 NHS Lothian is seeking proposals to deliver a programme of work which aims to address the issue of unequal participation rates in physical activity in line with the Draft Physical Activity and Sport Strategy for Edinburgh 2024-2034. The programme will work towards the outcome of increased physical activity participation in Edinburgh, by focusing on increasing participation in underrepresented groups. This new work will replace the current Ageing Well physical activity programme when that comes to an end in June 2025, with the value of the commission remaining the same, at 81,091.87 GBP per annum. 1.2 Proposals should support people who have the most to gain from physical activity, by supporting those who are currently inactive, or have low levels of physical activity, to engage in and maintain increased levels of physical activity. This will involve offering opportunities that reduce barriers to participation and facilite equitable and inclusive access to appropriate places, spaces and services, so that increased levels of physical activity can be built into people's daily lives and sustained beyond the duration of a specific participation programme. It is recognised that a wide range of people in the city could benefit from increased levels of physical activity, however we are seeking to fund work focusing on supporting those who would not be able to access existing physical activity opportunities in the city without support to do so. 1.3 Proposals should target those with high levels of need including: - Having low levels of physical activity and - Being at higher risk of poorer health outcomes and - Facing barriers to accessing existing physical activity opportunities in the city, for example barriers due to cost, stigma or lack of local opportunities (focusing on those who would not be able to access existing physical activity opportunities in the city without removal of those barriers). 1.4 NHS Lothian intends to fund 2 proposals from the budget available, with half of the total budget available for each proposal: - One proposal will be targeted to adults. - One proposal will be targeted to young people aged 11-18 years (11-25 years if care experienced). 1.5 Bidders may submit one proposal per target population. A maximum of two proposals per organisation are permitted. 1.6 Where appropriate, a collaborative approach to work in partnership with communities and other local organisations may be taken. 1.7 Tender documents for this programme of work are expected to be published in January 2025, with new programmes to start in July 2025.
