Notice Description
Aquatic Research Facilities, LEGO tank system, tilapia husbandry system and carp husbandry system.
Procurement Information
The Roslin Institute has purchased a bespoke unique multi-unit disease-challenge aquatic system (LEGO) to perform pathogen challenges, a common carp husbandry system and a tilapia husbandry system to be placed at the Institute. The system is unique as it has been specifically designed by a University Professor to fit the specific requirements of the AQUACULTURE research team at the Roslin, including - accommodate fresh, brackish and saltwater species, at cold and warm water temperatures - The system will comprise 20 stand-alone recirculating aquaria units that can operate independently to administer vaccines, pathogens or different diets, etc.. - It could handle the use of BSLII level pathogens and would thus have a high containment at level 2 - It would also be equipped with an aerosol filtration and water disinfection unit - The system has to fit within the limited space of the Middle Wing, room G.38. ZEBCARE was able to offer a carp husbandry system and tilapia husbandry system that is compatible and can be connected to the already existing water supply, water filtration and water monitoring system that the University has already purchased for the zebrafish system. This is possible as the ZEBCARE systems (piping, automated monitoring system, filter units, etc...) are all compatible with one another. Furthermore, considering the limited space available in the Middle wing of the Roslin Institute, ZEBCARE was able to design a bespoke system to the room. These bespoke design elements of the integrated Aquatic Research Facilities are crucial to the establishment of the Professor's research lines at the Roslin, and to guarantee continuity in very delicate vaccination and challenge experiments that will be undertaken using the facilities.
