Notice Information
Notice Title
Award of contract for specialised seismic nodes - University of Aberdeen
Notice Description
Award of contract for 3-component seismic nodes, required for the type of imaging survey that we need for the geothermal (and other) project(s) in Aberdeen. Having 3 sensors in one device allows a 3-dimensional recording of the seismic wavefield, thus allowing assessment of rock properties such as fractures and flow directions of granite. These are essential for the geothermal imaging required in a complex basement geology beneath Aberdeen.

Procurement Information
The grounds for justification of awarding this contract without seeking offers through a formal procurement procedure is that competition is absent for technical reasons. Under clause 6(1) (b) (ii) of the legislation, a contracting authority may award a contract without competition (only where no reasonable alternative or substitute exists, and the absence of competition is not the result of artificial narrowing down of parameters of the procurement). In this case, the grounds for not exposing to competition are as follows: Only a single provider can supply the 3-component seismic node that is required for the type of imaging survey which is necessary for the completion of survey work.
