NHS Lothian have awarded a contract for decontamination contingency services. The contractor will decontaminate surgical equipment when the local Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU) does not have the capacity to process the volumes of equipment required to be cleaned. The contract will also used when the HSDU of other Health Boards cannot assist. The contract will be used on an ad-hac basis, wherever the need arises. Within recent years, spend for this provision has surpassed the regulated threshold (50K GBP) annually.
