Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process managed by Dumfries and Galloway Council invites tenders for "Kerbside Food Waste Treatment," focusing on the receipt, treatment, and disposal of kerbside food waste across the region. This contract encompasses two lots aimed at servicing both the East and West areas. The tender is currently in the active stage, utilising an open procedure with electronic submissions. Interested parties must submit their proposals by 27th April 2026, at 12:00 PM. The procurement effort aims to fulfil public services under the COFOG classification, and the location of service delivery includes Stranraer Zero Waste Park and Dumfries MBT Plant. The total estimated contract value is £240,000 GBP.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses adept in waste management, particularly those with experience in anaerobic digestion facilities and compliant waste transportation solutions. The competition suits businesses that possess necessary licences like the Waste Management Licensing, Pollution Prevention and Control, and Waste Carrier Licences, as required by Scottish regulations. It aims to involve service providers that can meet the Council’s standards for safe waste handling, particularly Category 3 animal byproducts. Companies providing innovative solutions in food waste recycling will find it advantageous to participate, given the focus on compliance with SEPA’s Waste Hierarchy and provision for electronic invoicing and payments.
