Food Standards Scotland (FSS) is seeking information from suppliers capable of providing data and insights on the purchase, composition and nutritional content of "meal deals" in Scotland. Meal deals are defined for the purpose of this exercise as multi-buy promotions typically consisting of ready-to-eat, cold meal deals comprising a main item, a snack, and a drink sold together in supermarkets or convenience stores at a cheaper price than when purchased individually.. This excludes hot takeaway meal deals and meal deals intended to be heated before consumption. This Prior Information Notice is issued to: - Understand the availability of relevant market data - Inform potential future procurement activity - Engage with suppliers capable of providing relevant datasets and analytical insight The data will support FSS in strengthening the evidence base on out-of-home food consumption and its impact on dietary behaviours.

FSS is seeking supplier intelligence on the availability of datasets related to meal deals purchased in Scotland, including but not limited to the areas outlined below. Suppliers are encouraged to indicate clearly which of the requirement areas (1-6) they are able to support and the extent to which they can meet specific elements of the requirements . 1. Meal Deal Uptake - Total number of meal deals purchased (absolute figures) - Proportion relative to other price promotions1 - Comparison with products included in meal deals purchased individually 2. Product Selection - Most commonly purchased products (including product categories and specific products) within: - Main items (e.g. sandwiches, wraps, salads) - Snacks (e.g. crisps, confectionery, fruit) - Drinks (e.g. soft drinks, water, smoothies) 3. Product Combinations - Most frequently purchased combinations: - At category level - At individual product level 4. Nutritional Information per portion, and per 100g For frequently purchased items: - Energy (kcal) - Fat, saturated fat, sugar, salt, fibre (grams) - Portion size and total product weight 5. Pricing Information - Average meal deal price (e.g., price, pricing tier (e.g., standard, premium) and loyalty pricing where applicable) - Average savings compared to purchasing components individually -Average price of individual components within categories 6. Consumer Demographics Where available: - Age - Gender - Socioeconomic status Data from major supermarket and convenience retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Co-op, Aldi, Lidl, Boots are of particular interest, although suppliers are not limited to these.. This is not a call for competition Participation is voluntary No costs will be reimbursed Responding (or not responding) will not affect any future procurement opportunities All information provided will be treated as confidential, subject to obligations under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
