Notice Title
Cruck Cottage - utility building
Notice Description
construction of small utility building
Lot Information
Lot 1
The project involves the construction of a small, stand alone, utility building to accommodate an accessible toilet, a small utility space and a store, which will be used by visitors and at events. The building will be located close to the Cruck Cottage. It is to be a highly insulated timber frame building incorporating solar panels, battery storage and a heat pump. Cruck Cottage in Torthorwald, Dumfriesshire is a Category A listed building, the last remaining survivor of this type of thatched, cruck constructed, rural home in Southwest Scotland. It is managed by Cruck Cottage Heritage, a community led, Scottish Charity (SCIO). The charity, run by a group of local volunteers, receives no regular funding and relies on fundraising activities, grants and donations to implement improvements and developments. Cruck Cottage Heritage exists to preserve the building and promote its use for the benefit of the local community and visitors to Dumfriesshire. It collects items relating to the history and social conditions of the cottage. The trustees and volunteers raise funds and open the cottage to the public, developing programmes of events and activities.
