Summary of the contracting process

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde intends to commission a specialist Huntington’s disease support service for people and families across its Health Board area. The service will support people at risk of developing Huntington’s disease, those experiencing symptoms, people with a confirmed diagnosis, and their families and carers. Delivery will focus particularly on Inverclyde, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire. This is a community health and social care service, working alongside existing clinical and voluntary-sector support. The provider will coordinate with the Specialist Huntington’s Disease Management Clinic, the Specialist Huntington’s Disease Psychiatry Service, Health and Social Care Partnerships and relevant third-sector organisations to provide coordinated, person-centred care and support.

This procurement is at the planning stage: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has stated an intention to procure the service, but has not yet invited tenders. The planned procurement is for one lot and uses a service contract approach. The buyer expects the next notice to be published on 2 November 2026; this is an indicative publication date, not a tender deadline. The service is classified under CPV 85000000, covering health and social care services. The planned process is intended to establish arrangements for specialist support across the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, with the detailed requirements and evaluation arrangements to be set out when the procurement reaches the market.

The work will suit specialist health, social care or voluntary-sector providers with experience supporting people affected by Huntington’s disease and their families. Relevant capability includes understanding the needs of people at genetic risk, people with symptoms or a confirmed diagnosis, carers and families, and providing support that is coordinated and person-centred. Providers should be prepared to work across several Health and Social Care Partnership localities and collaborate with clinical teams, community services and third-sector organisations. Experience of multidisciplinary working will be important, including effective links with a consultant-led Huntington’s Disease Management Clinic and a specialist psychiatry service. Organisations able to integrate specialist advice with local community support are likely to be well placed when the service reaches the market.
