Notice Description
The Chambers Institution project involves the refurbishment and adaptation of parts of the Category A Listed Chambers Institution in Peebles to create an integrated museum, library and art gallery, together with a new accessible arrival space. The works will improve accessibility through the installation of a new lift, enhance visitor facilities, upgrade building services, improve fire safety, and reconfigure internal spaces to ensure the building remains accessible, sustainable and fit for community use while preserving its historic character.

The Chambers Institution project involves the refurbishment and adaptation of parts of the Category A Listed Chambers Institution in Peebles to create an integrated museum, library and art gallery, together with a new accessible arrival space. The building has served a variety of public functions throughout its history and remains an important community asset at the heart of Peebles. The works form the first phase of a longer-term vision to improve accessibility, functionality and sustainability while preserving the building's historic character. Key elements include the installation of a new lift to improve access to all public areas, reconfiguration of internal spaces, upgraded visitor facilities, improvements to the main entrance and street frontage, renewal of building services, and fire safety enhancements. The Contract terms to be used are SBBC Standard Building Contract with Quantities (Scotland Edition).
