The University of Strathclyde's Department of Safety, Wellbeing and Resilience (SWR) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and competent Occupational Hygienist to provide specialist Occupational Hygiene Services. The appointed supplier will apply recognised scientific and engineering principles to identify, assess, and evaluate workplace exposures to agents that may be harmful to health. Services will include the identification of occupational hazards, measurement of employee exposure levels, and assessment of the associated health risks arising from chemical, biological, physical, ergonomic, and psychosocial factors across a range of University environments. The purpose of these assessments is to: - Evaluate the effectiveness of existing control measures; - Assess risks to employee health and wellbeing; - Recommend appropriate actions to eliminate or reduce risks; and - Support the University's compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and best practice. - Potential workplace hazards may include, but are not limited to, chemical vapours, gases, dusts, biological agents, noise, vibration, heat, cold, ergonomic factors, and psychosocial hazards. The appointed supplier will provide the expertise, advice, guidance, and support required to assist the University's Occupational Hygiene Programme, including: - Providing professional occupational hygiene advice and guidance; - Identifying suitable and effective risk control measures to reduce workplace exposures; - Advising on the need for, and appropriate implementation of, health surveillance programmes; - Conducting occupational hygiene assessments, monitoring, and exposure surveys as required; - Interpreting assessment and monitoring results and providing clear recommendations; - Keeping the University informed of relevant changes to legislation, regulations, standards, and industry best practice; and - Providing advice on the implications of legislative changes and supporting the implementation of any necessary actions. The supplier shall ensure that all advice and recommendations are evidence-based, proportionate to the risk, and aligned with current legal and professional standards. Note that: The Occupational Hygienist: - Must be a Licentiate Member of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene - Must have obtained BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene (or one of the equivalent entry routes). - Must be listed on the BOHS Register of Occupational Hygiene Professionals
