Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is conducting a procurement process for a Thermal Cycle Chamber, essential for evaluating the mechanical reliability of electronic circuits. This tender falls under the industry category of laboratory, optical, and precision equipment (excluding glasses) and is in the active Tender stage. The closing date for submissions is 31st January 2020, with the contract period expected to commence from 3rd February 2020 and last until 1st February 2021. This limited procurement process is classified as a competitive quotation below the threshold.

This opportunity is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that specialise in manufacturing or supplying laboratory and precision equipment. Businesses engaged in high-reliability electronics, particularly those focused on electric and hybrid systems, oil and gas, and aerospace sectors, would benefit from this tender. The requirement for rigorous testing systems presents significant growth potential for companies capable of delivering innovative metrology solutions compliant with industry standards.

Notice Title

RFQ - Thermal Cycle Chamber

Notice Description

NPL's requirement is a thermal cycle chamber for rapid increasing or decreasing temperature inside the chamber over a range of -70degC to 180degC, ideally with a 10degC/minute change rate. The purpose is to evaluate mechanical reliability of electronic circuits with a typical load being below 5kg of PCAs. NPL's requirement is to test thermo-mechanical reliability of electronic assemblies by subjecting them to regular thermal excursions across an extended operational range. The tests we will run will be used to test high reliability electronics and electrical system from manufacturers for their type approval testing. Similar systems are used within the industry to provide fitness for purpose testing for new designs and material combinations. The innovative metrology developed by NPL for high temperature materials and manufacturing techniques, is required for electric and hybrid development, oil/gas, and aerospace partners. This is required for benchmarking against these widely accepted industry standards. Additional information: Please do not contact the person listed on this notice. Documents can only be obtained through Bravo Solutions.
