Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is conducting a procurement process for a new RFQ: 10 kHz to 250 MHz 500 Watt Amplifier intended to replace an outdated device used for calibrating radiation hazard probes and field strength sensors. This procurement is classified under the category of Laboratory, optical and precision equipment and is taking place in Teddington, London. The procurement method is competitive quotation, aimed at sourcing suppliers below the threshold, with key dates including a tender period ending on 18th May 2021 and a contract period from 18th June 2021 to 20th June 2022.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) to participate in a niche market within the scientific equipment sector. Businesses specialising in precision instrumentation and laboratory equipment manufacturing would be particularly well-suited to compete, given the NPL's focus on advanced calibration devices. Engaging in this procurement could help these businesses grow their portfolio and establish valuable partnerships with a prominent organisation in the field of physical science and measurement.

Notice Title

RFQ: 10 kHz to 250 MHz 500 Watt Amplifier

Notice Description

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] require equipment for the calibration of radiation hazard probes and field strength sensors and will replace our existing Amplifier Research 500A100 amplifier. The existing 500 watt amplifiers are over 25 years old and it's output has dropped. The new amplifier will have a wider frequency range, so it will save us moving another amplifier from different calibration area to do measurements from 100 to 250 MHz. Reflective low pass filters will be used on the output of the amplifiers to reduce harmonics to acceptable levels. The proposed amplifier must be able to operate continuously at the rated output power when any harmonics generated are reflected back into the amplifier. Additional information: The Authority is using the LUPC Bravo e-Procurement portal to conduct the procurement process. All Suppliers must register their company via the LUPC Bravo Portal.
