Summary of the contracting process

The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew is currently engaged in a public procurement process related to the "Theatre on Kew (Extension)" project, which falls under the entertainment services category. The contract is located in Richmond, London, and involves an extension of existing theatre services provided by The Australian Shakespeare Company for a duration of up to 12 months, commencing from April 30, 2020, and concluding on September 30, 2021. The award was made on April 14, 2020, with a total contract value of £20,000, using a direct procurement method through a single tender action. The process is now complete, with key aspects of the project aimed at addressing challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary and community sector enterprises (VCSEs) looking to expand their presence in the performing arts sector. Businesses that specialise in outdoor theatre services or similar entertainment offerings would be well-placed to compete for future contracts as RBG Kew plans to facilitate replacement contracts post-pandemic. Engaging with such tenders can help these businesses not only secure vital revenue but also establish a partnership with a renowned heritage institution, enhancing their industry credibility.

Notice Title

Theatre on Kew (Extension)

Notice Description

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (RBG Kew) believes that the first condition set out in Regulation 72(1)(c) of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 has been fulfilled in respect of the award of this contract. RBG Kew has taken the decision to extend the existing Contract with The Australian Shakespeare Company for the provision of outdoor theatre services for a period of up to 12 months (twelve months). This is to enable RBG Kew resources to be diverted to procuring urgent requirements to deal with COVID-19 consequences; to relieve pressure on the supply chain while short staffed; and to allow us to focus upon business critical activities including caring for our world-class collections, where we have some of the world's rarest and most endangered plants. RBG Kew intends to deliver replacement contracts as quickly as possible after the COVID-19 impact.
