Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence, part of the UK Government, is seeking tenders for the provision and support of a Body Armour Load Carriage System (BALCS). The contract, with an estimated value of around £11M, will be for a maximum of seven years. The procurement method is a negotiated procedure without prior publication, with the tender closing on March 19, 2024. The contract period will start on June 10, 2024, and end on June 10, 2031, with the delivery address located in the South West region of the United Kingdom.

This tender opportunity presents a lucrative chance for businesses in the protective and safety clothing industry. Suitable businesses with technical expertise in providing continuing support for BALCS-related equipment can compete for this contract. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to participate, given that LPA, the current sole distributor, is unable to pass on necessary data to third parties, creating space for new entrants. The Ministry of Defence will be the contracting authority overseeing this tender process, offering a significant opportunity for growth and collaboration within the industry.
