Summary of the contracting process

The General Medical Council (GMC) based in Manchester is currently engaged in a public procurement process for "Scanning Support" services. This tender, classified under scanning services, has been awarded with a total value of £60,000 and is intended to facilitate support for Kofax scanning systems used in the GMC’s central workflow. The contract commenced on 1st June 2017 and will run until 31st May 2020. The procurement was conducted through an open procedure, and relevant dates include the tender period which closed on 10th May 2017, with award details published on 13th July 2017.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in scanning and related IT services. Companies that are capable of providing technical support, disaster recovery, and loan scanning equipment would be particularly well-suited to compete in this space. As the contract supports the GMC's operational continuity, firms offering adaptable solutions and rapid response capabilities are likely to find a competitive advantage. This is especially pertinent for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) seeking to engage in government contracts.

Notice Title

Scanning Support

Notice Description

The GMC currently uses 5 Kodak Scanners alongside Kofax systems for delivering a central workflow system for scanning. A pre-production environment is used for testing changes or upgrades prior to release into our production environment. Both environments are currently running Kofax Capture 10. The GMC requires support for all scanners and associated licenses. Support during a Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity scenario would also be required where the 3 Hardman Street office servers and scanners may not be available. There are alternative sites in Manchester and London which could be used to base the scanning functions. In the majority of scenarios, the GMC would envisage utilising the existing HR scanner based at our London office until the main/primary scanners and the scanning office at Hardman Street where available again. There may also be a requirement to be provided with a loan scanner with similar spec to the Ngenuity 9125 for the team to use in the interim. If in the situation, where the Manchester servers were unavailable, the scanning services would be re-routed through our London servers in the interim.
