Summary of the contracting process

Public Health England (PHE) has awarded a contract for the provision of exotic antivenoms, essential for emergency treatment against venomous animal bites. This procurement falls under the pharmaceutical products category, with a contract value of £51,000. The contract period began on 3rd March 2020 and will last until 31st March 2021, with the opportunity for a 12-month extension. The procurement method used was a direct award through a single tender action, as the process relates to a critical supply need positioned within the overall public health framework across the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in pharmaceutical products, particularly those with expertise in antivenoms. Businesses capable of meeting high-quality pharmaceutical standards and possessing the ability to respond to urgent public health needs could find a competitive edge in future procurements. Engaging with Public Health England could facilitate expanded business collaborations, ensuring that vital medical supplies such as exotic antivenoms remain readily available both within the UK and its overseas territories.
