Urine Microscopy system for York and Scarborough Hospitals

Notice Description

The Microbiology Department at York Hospital processes approximately 50,000 urine samples per year on the York site and 35,000 samples per year on the Scarborough site and provides this service on a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year basis. There is a requirement to: a) Process 200 - 300 urines per day and enable analysis of increasing volumes of workload at a level of 5-7% per annum. The instrument must have a minimum process capacity of 80 samples per hour. a) Maintain or improve turnaround times for final reports for negative urine samples. It is anticipated that at least 40% of the workload will be reported the same day. b) Enable continuous mode operation if required. c) Have a fully automated walk-away system. d) Enable the analyser to be operated by a Medical Laboratory Assistant with minimal BMS involvement. e) Remove the requirement to process any urines by manual microscopy f) Ensure clear audit trails of data are available to meet Clinical Governance and UKAS accreditation requirements.
