Summary of the contracting process

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is in the planning stage of a procurement process titled "PIN- HMS Victory Rigging Hardware Conservation & Fabrication." This project falls under the metalworking industry category and is located in the South East region of the United Kingdom. The current engagement end date is set for 14th November 2024, with plans to host an industry day at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in November 2024. The tender advertisement is expected in February 2025, with the contract award anticipated between mid and late June 2024. The procurement process includes the conservation of existing rigging elements and the fabrication of replacement items necessary for the long-term preservation of HMS Victory.

This tender presents substantial business opportunities, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in metalworking and maritime conservation. Businesses specialising in the conservation of metalwork and rigging, as well as those capable of fabricating replacement parts, stand to benefit from participating in this project. Engaging with the NMRN's consultants and attending the industry day will provide interested parties with insights and potential collaboration opportunities, fostering growth and networking in this specialised industry.

PIN- HMS Victory Rigging Hardware Conservation & Fabrication

Notice Description

The aim of the HMS Victory Conservation Programme is to deliver a fully conserved ship, able to survive in an open environment for the next 50 years without major work beyond a programme of planned maintenance. A key component of the project is the conservation of existing rigging elements including masts and yards - generally referred to as 'spars' - and assorted metalwork items. There will also be a requirement to fabricate replacement items. The NMRN is planning to host an industry day at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in November 2024. The tendering approach is yet to be determined although the aim is to advertise the opportunity in February 2025, with envisaged contract award mid to end of June 2024. The NMRN may ask its appointed consultants to engage with interested bidders on its behalf. Please see in the attachment the full details of how to register interest in this project.
