Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is initiating a procurement process for a confocal laser scanning fluorescence microscope, as detailed in the Prior Information Notice (PIN) titled "Supply of CLEM Microscope." This procurement falls under the laboratory, optical, and precision equipment industry category (CPV code 38000000) and is planned to take place in London, England. Key dates include a future notice expected on 18th May 2021, with the contract period set to commence on 30th July 2021 and continue until 30th July 2022. This process is currently in the planning stage, and the tender is yet to be formally issued to the public.

This upcoming tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the scientific equipment sector, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) that specialise in laboratory equipment manufacturing or related technologies. Companies that can provide advanced microscopy technologies, including those that offer integrated software solutions for image acquisition and analysis or environmental control systems for biological applications, would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Engaging with this procurement could enable businesses to expand their market reach and establish valuable relationships with a key government laboratory.
