Summary of the contracting process

The University of Bristol is initiating a tender process for the procurement of a high-speed inspection system under the title "Wing Accelerator WP5.2 - In process 3D Inspection System (NDA)." This process falls under the industry categories of laboratory, optical and precision equipment, and industrial machinery. The system aims to inspect plies on a 3D tool surface or stacked onto the tool with high accuracy. The procurement stage is currently in the tender phase, and the deadline for tender submissions is set for 6th September 2024, with the contract period expected to span from 17th February 2025 to 16th February 2026. Interested suppliers must complete a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in order to participate in the main tender process and register on the University of Bristol's Jaggaer Portal.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses, especially those specialising in high-speed inspection systems, laboratory, optical, and precision equipment, or industrial machinery. Companies that can provide innovative solutions to meet the specified inspection needs and potentially enhance the current state of the art in ply inspection technology will find this an attractive opportunity. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to participate, given the open procurement method and the project's substantial value of £300,000. This tender could open doors for long-term contracts and partnerships with a leading academic institution, fostering business growth and innovation.

Notice Title

Wing Accelerator WP5.2 - In process 3D Inspection System (NDA)

Notice Description

A set of trials, resulting in a Capital purchase, to assess high-speed inspection system to inspect plies that have been deposited and lie on a 3D tool surface or on plies stacked onto the tool. Tools will be up to 20x5m and gently curving, with plies up to 20x2.5m. We aim to be inspecting ply shape accuracy and position on tool, material edge damage, wrinkling, folding, FOD, and validating fibre direction. The inspection system could scan the entire scene from one vantage point, or many, or be attached to an accurate CNC controlled gantry that we have in the cell in order to achieve a full ply scan. We are aiming to scan each ply within 30s. We understand that the current state of the art (SotA) does not achieve all of this, and we wish to work with suppliers to achieve the best rate possible, and we may purchase or develop a complimentary system to fill the gaps in the existing SotA. This exercise is to facilitate the signature of an NDA from perspective suppliers, prior to being invited to the main Tender. Please note this is not a 2 stage process - the closing date is for the close of the tenders, not this stage. You must allow enough time to facilitate NDA approval and tender completion before the closing date. To be added to the main tender (itt_1518 - Wing Accelerator WP5.2 In Process 3D Inspection System) you will need to complete the NDA attached and return it to us to be processed, to enable us to add your company to the main tender process. Your company will have to be registered on the University of Bristol's Jaggaer Portal https://tenders.bris.ac.uk Additional information: This exercise is to facilitate the signature of an NDA from perspective suppliers, prior to being invited to the main Tender.
