Notice Information
Notice Title
Mode-S data service
Notice Description
Since 2012 the Met Office has been generating wind observations from Mode-S EHS and ADS-B messages collected by our own network of receivers spread across the United Kingdom. This data has been demonstrated to have a positive impact when assimilated into our numerical weather prediction model for the UK. It measurably improves our ability to predict the weather over the UK. We are now looking to gather data from a significantly larger area for assimilation into our global numerical weather prediction models. Our objective is to significantly increase the number of aircraft derived wind measurements from ground level to aircraft cruise altitudes for a significant part of the world, using Mode-S EHS and ADS-B data. We are especially interested in data from four specific regions: The Tropics, South America, Africa, and East/South East Asia. In light of this, we are issuing a request for information, seeking some insight from the market as to the current capabilities on offer. If you are interested and would like further information, please contact adam.rossiter@metoffice.gov.uk , who will be able to provide you with: a) Further details on the scope of our requirements and objectives; b) A description of the type of information we are trying to obtain from the market at this stage, and; c) Instructions on how to submit some information to the Met Office about your capabilities and solutions. We are hoping to receive submissions by Friday 15th October 2021. PLEASE NOTE - this notice is an information gathering exercise rather than a call for competition, and therefore publication or response does not commit the Met Office or any respondents to a future procurement, nor provide any process exemptions or preferential treatment to any parties expressing an interest. The Met Office will not be liable for costs incurred by any interested party in participating in this exercise.
