Summary of the contracting process

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is inviting tenders for the "Educational Online Platform Extension" project, focused on developing features for the online teaching platform IsaacComputerScience.org, which is based remotely within the UK. This procurement is currently in the active tender phase, with submissions closing on 16th October 2020. The project is classified under software programming and consultancy services, and the estimated contract value is between £20,000 and £30,000, commencing on 2nd November 2020 and continuing until 31st March 2021.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for software development firms, particularly those with full-stack capabilities and experience in educational technology. Companies that specialise in programming languages and frameworks such as Java, TypeScript, and React, as well as those familiar with PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch, would be ideally suited to compete. The focus on extending functionalities such as diagnostic quizzes and summative assessments highlights the potential for businesses to innovate within the growing education sector, especially those with a track record of collaboration with academic institutions like the University of Cambridge.

Notice Title

Educational Online Platform Extension

Notice Description

Based: Remote (UK only) with regular meetings at the University of Cambridge Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the UK Raspberry Pi and the University of Cambridge are seeking a contractor to support development of the online teaching platform IsaacComputerScience.org. The platform itself is shared with IsaacPhysics.org and is open source software (https://github.com/isaacphysics/). The contractor will need to design, build, integrate and test a substantial new feature for the platform. Currently, the platform automatically marks and provides immediate feedback to students when answering questions. We would like to extend the platform to support diagnostics quizzes and summative assessment which require students to complete a set of questions with either limited or no immediate feedback. The solution will require modification of both backend and frontend services and must be fully integrated into the existing platform, including appropriate support for automated testing. The contractor will need significant full-stack expertise in all the relevant programming languages and libraries used by the platform including Java, Jetty, PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch as well as TypeScript, JSON and React. The contract must be cleared to work for the University of Cambridge with previous experience of working with equipment at the Department of Computer Science and Technology. For further information please contact mbp36@cam.ac.uk. How to apply: Please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your skills and experience to mbp36@cam.ac.uk.
