Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is currently inviting applications for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme Fund for Winter 2021. This initiative aims to support local families during the school Christmas holidays, from December 21, 2021, to January 4, 2022, by providing enjoyable and nutritional activities for children. Interested parties must submit their applications by the deadline of October 24, 2021. The procurement process is characterised as a grant funding application and falls under the category of community service provisions, focusing on addressing the needs of families struggling during school holidays.

This tender presents significant opportunities for organisations specialising in community services, especially those focused on children's activities, health, and nutrition. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations would be particularly well-suited to compete, as they can provide the innovative and tailored services required for the HAF programme. Attending the online briefing session on October 13, 2021, would also be beneficial for prospective bidders to gain insights into the application process and requirements.

Notice Title

London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme Fund Winter 2021

Notice Description

Applications now being invited to deliver the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Winter 2021 HAF programme! The value of the contract will depend what bidders set out in their application. There is no set monetary amount. School holidays can be a difficult time for some families with children. Parents may struggle to pay for extra food if their children usually get free meals at school. It can be hard for families on low incomes to pay for things for their children to do during the holidays, as leisure activities, trips and holiday schemes can be expensive. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children and young people from disadvantaged families: *less likely to access organised out-of-school activities. *more likely to experience 'unhealthy holidays' in terms of nutrition and physical health. *more likely to experience social isolation. Free holiday clubs are a response to this issue and evidence suggests that they can have a positive impact on children and young people and that they work best when they: *provide consistent and easily accessible enrichment activities. *cover more than just breakfast or lunch. *involve children (and parents) in food preparation. In November 2020, the government announced that the holiday activities and food (HAF) programme will be expanded across the whole of England in 2021. Barking and Dagenham are seeking applications from local organisations to deliver the HAF Outcomes in the school Christmas holidays in December 2021 - January 2022.
