Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has initiated a procurement process for the acquisition of a GC-PDHID instrument aimed at enhancing the analysis of trace amounts of inert gases. The tender, titled "RFQ: GC-PDHID for Trace Amount of Inert Gases Analysis," falls under the industry category of laboratory, optical and precision equipment. The procurement stage is currently in the Tender phase with a closing date for submissions on 21st August 2024. Located in Teddington, England, NPL seeks to complete the contract starting from 10th September 2024 and ending on 28th March 2025. The procurement method being used is a competitive quotation (below threshold), and the opportunity is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

This tender offers significant opportunities for business growth, particularly for firms specialising in advanced laboratory instruments and precision equipment. Businesses that provide high-quality testing and measurement services will find this an attractive project. The GC-PDHID instrument is expected to deliver substantial improvements in detection limits and analysis speed, potentially allowing the successful bidder to expand their client base and enhance their service offerings. Firms with strong capabilities in high-precision gas analysis and innovation in measurement technology will be well-suited to compete for this contract.

Notice Title

RFQ: GC-PDHID for Trace Amount of Inert Gases Analysis

Notice Description

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] requirement is for GC-PDHID for Trace Amount of Inert Gases Analysis The current objective of the new instrument is to perform faster and better measurement using state of the art separation and analysis. The new instrument should improve the limit of detection from 300 nmol/mol level, to 10 nmol/mol, and rapid separation of oxygen, nitrogen and argon from 15 minutes down to 10 minutes (with a better resolution). Therefore, the purchase of GC-PDHID instrument will solve challenges and provide opportunity in this growing area: - expand capacity: the GC-PDHID will allow to expand existing and novel areas (ultra-low concentration of inert gases) without impacting existing service or project. It would support the growth of revenue and projects as High-Quality, testing measurement service, novel PRMs. - expand capability: the new instrument will increase the limit of detection from 300 nmol/mol level to 10 nmol/mol level, and can separate oxygen, nitrogen, and argon in shorter time. It would support the growth of revenue and projects as testing measurement service. - instrument contingency. instrument contingency of instrument to application where they maximise impact (i.e., GC-PDHID can also do routine measurement). There is direct contingency, and it will avoid any delay in delivering project of MS. Additional information: The Authority is using the LUPC Bravo e-Procurement portal to conduct the procurement process. All Suppliers must register their company via the LUPC Bravo Portal.
