Summary of the contracting process

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has completed a procurement process to acquire a Smart Messaging Service. The service is crucial for the trust's operations, including emergency services like 111 and 999. The procurement was conducted via a direct award to British Telecom under a framework agreement to ensure business continuity and maintain frontline service delivery. The contract, valued at £72,480, falls under the industry category of Electronic message and information services. The contract was awarded on 1st April 2025, with the service expected to commence on 28th April 2025 and run until 27th April 2027. The procurement method was selective, ensuring that the service would be reliable and appropriate for the high-stake requirements of the trust.

This tender offers significant business growth opportunities, especially for telecommunications and IT service providers capable of delivering robust messaging solutions. Although the award was made via a direct framework agreement, it sets a precedent for future procurements within the healthcare and emergency services sector. Businesses specialising in electronic messaging services, particularly those experienced with large-scale, mission-critical deployments, would be well-suited to pursue similar opportunities. Collaboration with healthcare organisations necessitates high standards of reliability and security, making this an advantageous sector for experienced suppliers.
