Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process is led by Public Health England (PHE), which is seeking proposals for the provision of a virus particle counting system under the title "PHE-Scientific Purchase of Virus Particle Counter." This procurement falls under the category of laboratory, optical, and precision equipment, with a total estimated value of £35,000. The tender is currently in the active stage, with a closing date for queries set for 6th April 2021 at 12:00 PM. The contract is anticipated to start on 8th April 2021 and conclude on 7th April 2022. This is an open procurement process being conducted below the threshold level.

This tender provides a valuable opportunity for businesses specialised in laboratory equipment and precision instrumentation to expand their market presence. Companies that can meet the specific technical requirements outlined, such as the ability to quantify virus particles within a precise size range and perform with minimal calibration, will be well-positioned to compete. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) particularly stand to benefit, given the suitability designation for such businesses, while larger companies with established expertise in similar technologies may also find this a strategic opportunity to engage with a significant public health initiative.
