Summary of the contracting process

The Weymouth & Portland Borough Council is seeking to procure a new server for its Revenues and Benefits Service, as the current Sun Server will no longer be supported from 2018. This procurement falls under the category of information systems and servers and was initiated under an exempt internal contract procedure. The tender was officially awarded on 18th September 2017, with a total contract value of £46,000. The contract period is set to commence from 27th September 2017 and will run until 31st March 2018, with delivery required in the South West region of England.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for businesses in the IT and server supply sector, particularly those with expertise in Linux-based solutions. Companies that specialise in installing and maintaining information systems would be well-suited to compete in this niche, as the council’s move towards Linux aligns with potential future reorganisation efforts in local government. Given the active involvement of Capita Software Services as the selected supplier, opportunities may exist for collaborative ventures or subcontracting arrangements for firms looking to expand their reach within public sector contracts.

Notice Title

Revenues and Benefits new server

Notice Description

The Revenues and Benefits Service main processing system operates from a Sun Server. Capita, who provide and maintain the system, have confirmed that Sun Servers will not be supported from 2018. This means that the Server needs to be replaced to a Linux based server before the end of 2017 to ensure that the Council Tax and Business Rates bills can be produced for 2018/19. Capita will provide and install the new Server. In addition, the Linux option will fit with the rest of Dorset should Local Government Reorganisation and/or Pan Dorset Revenues and Benefits Service occur.
