Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence procured maritime systems spares for the Royal Navy’s ships. The requirement covers warships and associated parts, including spares supporting power, propulsion and auxiliary systems. It forms part of the Defence Equipment Support Ships Operating Centre’s global support for Royal Naval platforms. Delivery may be required across the United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Europe and the rest of the world. The procurement is for goods and sits within an established framework of suppliers providing systems spares through call-off contracts. The requirement is identified as SPA711 and supports the ongoing maintenance and operation of Royal Navy platforms.

This procurement has been awarded and the tender is complete. It was a selective call-off competition from a framework agreement established under the Defence and Security Public Contracts Regulations 2011. The tender deadline was 26 June 2026, the award date was 29 July 2026, and the contract runs from 10 August 2026 to 10 February 2027. Basetek Ltd and Scott Aerospace Ltd were awarded the contract together. The published award value is £0, while the call-off price is withheld because of commercial sensitivities and the ongoing competitive nature of the framework. The framework uses call-off competitions, with mini-competitions held throughout its life. The opportunity was identified as suitable for SMEs and VCSEs.

This award demonstrates continuing Ministry of Defence demand for maritime systems spares supporting Royal Navy vessels, with potential delivery requirements extending across the UK and international locations. Suppliers well placed for a future requirement would need credible capability in sourcing, supplying and managing spares for warships and associated naval systems, particularly power, propulsion and auxiliary equipment. They would also need to operate effectively within a defence framework and compete through call-off or mini-competition routes. The selected suppliers are both SMEs, showing that the requirement can be delivered by smaller specialist businesses. Evidence of dependable supply-chain management, technical understanding of naval platforms, export and international delivery capability, and the capacity to support operational requirements would strengthen a competitor’s position.
