Notice Title

Cambridge City Council - Jubilee Garden Footpath and Environmental Enhancements

Notice Description

There have been major new developments around Mitcham's Corner at Student Castle and Lilywhite Drive. The area identified is one of the few locally for relaxation, but it is not easily accessible for people with disabilities and has been allowed to fall into some disrepair so does not encourage its use. The proposal will improve access and allow for relaxation beside the River Cam. This area is one of the few with public access on the north side of the river. West Chesterton has a very low level of public open space being made up of terraced streets and semi-detached houses with large gardens. This area will provide communal space within West Chesterton. The scheme proposed will improve accessibility however wheelchair users would need to access and egress the site by the same entrance, at the northern eastern end near the public toilets. Access by the side of the footbridge at the western end of the site is by a series of steps (approx. 15 steps) that are in a poor state of repair and bound by the bridge structure and semi mature Yew trees. It is not viable within the project budget to make the area at / under the footbridge accessible for those with reduced mobility, particularly wheelchair users.
