Summary of the contracting process

The Met Office is currently seeking tenders for the "Provision of Studio Operator Services," aimed at supporting its operations in the motion picture and video services sector. This procurement is classified under the CPV code 92100000 and falls within the services category. The tender is active and was published on 3rd April 2019. The closing date for submissions is 8th May 2019. The services will be required at their location in the South West region of the United Kingdom, with a contract period commencing from 6th July 2019 and lasting until 5th July 2022. The total estimated value of the contract is £120,000, and it will be conducted using an open procurement method.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in broadcast services and studio operations. Companies that specialise in motion picture, video, or radio services, particularly those with a capability to operate and deliver under a specialised and continuous schedule, would be well-positioned to compete. Given the ongoing need for operational support, businesses that can provide skilled studio operators for seven-day-a-week service delivery will find this tender aligns well with their offerings.

Notice Title

Provision of Studio Operator Services

Notice Description

The Met Office hosts two production studios which are used to create content to be distributed to our customers, such as the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), through the visualisation of forecasting data. Due to contractual obligations to customers and our own content requirements, the Studio needs to operate 7 days a week, 365 days a year, whilst the core Met Office studio team works Monday to Friday. In the past, we have tried to cover this shortfall using various shift-work teams, but this resource is no longer available. Since moving to broadcast quality output, the process has become more specialised and requires specialist skills. This has led to the requirement of services from an external supplier to provide specialist studio operators.
