Summary of the contracting process

The University of Southampton is seeking suppliers for the provision of a multichannel potentiostat/galvanostat as part of a collaborative project to study battery degradation. This procurement falls under the goods category and is valued at £65,000, with a minimum threshold of £55,000. The tender process has been completed, and the award was made on 14 February 2018. The contract runs from 26 February 2018 to 25 February 2020, located in Southampton, South East England. This open procurement process allows for competition from various suppliers in the industry.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in electrical equipment and analysis apparatus, particularly those focused on scientific instrumentation and electrochemical research. Companies that specialise in spectroscopy devices would be well-suited to compete, especially if they are SMEs capable of meeting the project's technical requirements. The involvement of multiple universities in the project also opens avenues for partnerships and collaborative opportunities within the academic and research sectors.

Notice Description

The University of Southampton has joined a major consortium to study battery degradation, one of the Fast Start Projects within the Faraday Institution. The project involves several universities (Cambridge, Glasgow, UCL, Imperial, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton and Warwick) and aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of degradation processes in electric-vehicle batteries, and it will work in collaboration with the other three Faraday Fast Start projects to build the next generation of batteries for electric vehicle applications as part of the UK's industrial strategy. The work at Southampton will take place in Chemistry (Electrochemistry section), at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences. A multichannel potentiostat/galvanostat will be acquired in order to perform a systematic electrochemical characterization of battery materials, as required for the project described above
