Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking to procure a walk-in environmental chamber for their Multiple Atmospheres Controlled Environment (MACE) facility, intended to enhance air quality monitoring via low-cost gas sensors. The procurement process is currently at the tender stage and follows an open procedure, with the tender period concluding on 30 August 2024. The project falls under the laboratory, optical and precision equipment industry category. The setup must accommodate the existing laboratory space at NPL's Hampton Road, Teddington location. The contract is valued at £190,000 GBP and is set to commence on 23 September 2024, ending by 22 September 2025.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specializing in environmental testing and advanced precision equipment. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to apply due to the suitability criteria favouring these entities. The successful bidder will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with NPL Estates for the decommissioning of the current equipment and installation of the new chamber, presenting further engagement and service offerings in future partnerships. Businesses with expertise in temperature and humidity control automation would be well-suited to compete in this procurement.
