Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process is being led by WWF-UK (World Wide Fund for Nature) Trading Limited, which is seeking proposals for a study titled "Horizon scanning future production areas for UK imports of fruits and vegetables." This project aims to explore trends and potential developments in global sourcing areas for imported fruits and vegetables, focusing on the impact of climate change and biodiversity. The procurement is categorised under research and development services and is located in the United Kingdom. The tender is currently in the planning stage, with proposals due by 9th October 2020. The total value of the contract ranges from £15,000 to £40,000, with a contract period starting on 19th October 2020 and ending on 25th January 2021. The procurement method used is an open procedure.

This tender presents significant opportunities for consultancies and specialists experienced in environmental issues, agriculture, and research services. Businesses that can analyse climate trends, water stress, and biodiversity impacts will find this opportunity well-suited to their capabilities. Given the focus on environmental consultancy and global sourcing strategies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly encouraged to participate, as their insights could contribute valuable perspectives on sustainable sourcing practices.

Notice Title

Horizon scanning future production areas for UK imports of fruits and vegetables

Notice Description

WWF-UK and Tesco are in partnership with an overall goal to reduce the environmental impact of the average UK shopping basket by 50%. The partnership encompasses a range of issues such as climate change, seafood, commodities, deforestation, landscapes, and water. As part of this partnership, WWF-UK would like to commission a study to examine trends and potential future developments in global sourcing areas for UK imported fruit and vegetables (F&V). We are seeking proposals from suitably experienced consultancies and specialists to address the following questions: 1. Given current trends in climate, economic development and production volumes, which existing major global sourcing areas for irrigated fruit or vegetables are likely to see increased or reduced production, and what are the associated changes in water stress and biodiversity? 2. What new areas are likely to emerge as important export- focused production areas for F&V, and what is the likely scale of increased water use for agriculture, loss of freshwater and terrestrial biodiversity. For these emerging areas, what is their vulnerability to climate change impacts? We would like to understand these trends in the short (5-10 years) and longer term (10-20 years) and, for existing major sourcing countries, how this might affect sub-country level sourcing areas. Please refer to the attached Request for Proposals for information about how to respond to this opportunity. Proposals should be submitted by 9th October 2020, by email to Conor Linstead, Freshwater Specialist, WWF-UK: clinstead@wwf.org.uk. Please note that WWF-UK would prefer to contract using our attached Standard Terms and Conditions. Any alternative proposals should be highlighted at the time of responding to the opportunity. Additional information: Please refer to the attached Request for Proposals for information about how to respond to this opportunity. Proposals should be submitted by 9th October 2020, by email to Conor Linstead, Freshwater Specialist, WWF-UK: clinstead@wwf.org.uk. Please note that WWF-UK would prefer to contract using the attached Standard Terms and Conditions. Any alternative proposals should be highlighted at the time of responding to the opportunity.
