Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence is currently in the planning stage of a procurement process for a Request for Information (RFI) regarding GPS Trackers with Biometric Monitors, Maintenance, and Connectivity. This initiative is aimed at gathering industry input to enhance GPS tracking capabilities for military training exercises. The engagement period is set to conclude on 14th July 2022, and it is situated in Portsmouth, England, within the category of global navigation and positioning systems (CPV code 38112100). The procurement type is a tender, although this RFI does not represent a bidding opportunity but rather an information collection exercise.

This procurement presents significant growth opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in GPS technology, biometrics, and military-grade equipment. Companies that can provide innovative solutions compatible with existing military devices and that demonstrate the ability to offer modular options will be well-suited to compete in future tenders stemming from this RFI. Given the project's focus on efficient and user-friendly systems, small and medium enterprises with strong capabilities in technology deployment and support could play a key role in the competitive landscape ahead.

Notice Title

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: 704423453 GPS Trackers with Biometric Monitors, Maintenance and Connectivity

Notice Description

Introduction This RFI is not a bidding opportunity but a means by which industry can provide information. Any resulting procurement activity will be conducted competitively. Please note: This RFI is an information gathering exercise, no further discussions with industry are planned at this stage however any future procurement activity will be advertised in line with public procurement regulations on the Defence Sourcing Portal and Contracts Finder. Background Moving to a modern and innovative GPS tracking capability that informs Exercise Control (ExCon), compatible with monitors for early detection and prevention of heat injury, will allow Royal Navy and Royal Marine instructors to deploy trainees onto multi-terrain exercise areas with the minimum of supervision, and increased confidence in their ability to track and recover trainees as required. The system should be capable of displaying individuals' positions on digital mapping (OS or foreign equivalent) and provide an 8- figure grid reference of their location. It must be simple to operate by the military user and require minimal training. To maximize efficiency the system and its proposed connectivity must be compatible with current devices used. The concept should have the ability to bolt on options, such as airtime, licenses, and stagger delivery dates, in order to consolidate various contracts. An assisted system with third-party management is not acceptable.
