Summary of the contracting process

The University of Hull is currently conducting a tender for the establishment of a new experimental facility at its Energy and Environment Institute, focusing on studying stratified flow dynamics. This project, valued at £250,000, falls under the category of services, specifically related to instruments for measuring flow, level, and pressure of liquids and gases. The procurement method is open, and the tender period is set to close on 19th March 2021. The contact point for inquiries is Charlotte White, reachable at c.green2@hull.ac.uk or by telephone at 01482 463343. The facility is intended to enhance the university's research capabilities in addressing global challenges such as climate change.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in engineering design services, flow-measuring equipment, and installation services of reservoirs to expand their operations. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to participate in this procurement process, which could lead to significant growth as the facility aims to innovate and deliver impactful research outcomes. Companies with expertise in environmental fluid dynamics would be well-suited to compete, potentially allowing them to collaborate with a leading academic institution on pressing environmental issues.

The Institute has three primary goals: to research and discover; to innovate and deliver impact; and to act as a regional anchor. The Energy and Environment Institute has a variety of applied and basic research clusters, one of which is the Centre of Environmental Fluid Dynamics. As we continue to grow and deliver research that matters, we are investing in our facilities and research capabilities into a new type of experimental facility that is required to study and measure stratified flow dynamics. The facility should be capable of maintaining specified density stratification, and flow velocity profiles, within a specified working section to understand the role of inherent density variation in natural and industrial flows.
