Summary of the contracting process

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is planning a tender for a Circular Dichroism Spectrophotometer. This procurement process is currently at the planning stage and involves early market engagement to define requirements. The engagement end date is set for 30th September 2023. The purpose of this tender is to determine the absolute structure of pure natural products through chiroptical spectroscopic methods, with a focus on compounds isolated from plants and fungi at RBG Kew. The procurement is classified under the CPV code for Spectrometers and is suitable for SMEs.

This tender from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew presents an opportunity for businesses specialising in chiroptical spectroscopic methods or molecular modelling techniques. Companies that can provide solutions for determining the absolute structure of pure compounds suitable for NMR spectroscopy are well-suited for this tender. The location for delivery is at TW9 3AE, in Richmond, United Kingdom. Interested parties can engage with the buyer, the Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, for further details about the tender and the market engagement process.

Notice Title

Circular dichroism spectrophotometer

Notice Description

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ("RBGKEW") is undertaking early market engagement to test the clarity of our stated requirements and the availability of solutions to meet these requirements. To determine the absolute structure of pure natural products isolated from plants and fungi at RBG Kew for which the relative structure has been determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. RBG Kew anticipates that the solution to this requirement is likely to be by chiroptical spectroscopic methods; however, as the compound may be new-to-science, no reference compound of known chirality will be available. The solution proposed must be applicable to the quantity of pure compound typically isolated for NMR spectroscopy at RBG Kew and, in most cases where the sample is in limited quantity, the sample used for NMR will be that presented to the absolute configuration workflow i.e. initially be in the deuterated solvent with TMS reference used for NMR. For compounds with multiple chiral centres, the NMR determination may have reduced the number of possibilities for the absolute structure. The requirement includes any molecular modelling techniques required to arrive at the absolute structure from the experimental data, be these your own proprietary methods/third-party or open access modelling software. For further information about this early market engagement including the specification, and an early market engagement form please contact Jamal Jimenez (j.jimenez@kew.org). Additional information: Please send the completed form along with any questions to Jamal Jimenez (j.jimenez@kew.org).
