Summary of the contracting process

The Forestry Commission is initiating a procurement process titled "Felling of Diseased Ash Trees" as part of a planning stage aimed at addressing the advanced signs of Ash Dieback in trees alongside busy roads in the West England Forest District. Interested parties must engage by 28 February 2020, as outlined in the early engagement notice published on 31 January 2020. This contract primarily falls under the category of specialist agricultural or forestry machinery and includes services related to agricultural, forestry, horticultural, aquacultural, and apicultural activities, with delivery addresses across the United Kingdom and other regions.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in forestry management, tree surgery, and related equipment, particularly those capable of innovating methodologies for dismantling or safely felling diseased trees in challenging locations. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, as the contract seeks expressions of interest to develop effective method statements for removing crown wood from hard-to-access trees, ultimately fostering growth in the forestry sector.

Notice Title

Felling of Diseased Ash Trees

Notice Description

Forestry England is seeking Expressions of Interest regarding Diseased Ash Tree Felling. West England Forest District have a number of busy roads with Ash Trees alongside. These trees are showing advanced signs of Ash Dieback and lie within a tree length of the road edge. Some of these trees are not safe to climb due to the percentage of dieback evident in the crown. Of these, some are not readily accessible by machine and will need attention to the crown to allow safe felling. We are looking for methodologies from the market, which allow for dismantling or removing the diseased crown wood from hard-to-access trees, to ensure safe felling of the main stem. Example trees are available primarily within the West District, which can be shown on request, with an objective of developing a method statement.
