Notice Title

Islip Bund Recovery Work

Notice Description

The existing earth bund located between Islip weir structure and Mill Street, Islip (SP5231313783) is approximately 60m in length. The bund has suffered damage due to overtopping during significant flood events over many years. The main area of damage is focused at the midpoint of the bund alignment. The aim of this project is to restore the crest level of the bund ensuring a consistent level over the entire length is achieved. A design is required and will be accepted by the client for reinforcing the crest footpath with the aim of reducing the rate of erosion to the crest caused by overtopping and pedestrian traffic. Significant H&S risk has been identified relating to the mains power feed supplying the weir control and telemetry kiosks. A decision has been made to permanently disconnect the power from site. The weir will be operated manually and the telemetry apparatus will be updated and powered via renewable energy sources. The Weir control apparatus and kiosk is required to be fully decommissioned and removed from site. The telemetry kiosk is required to be raised clear of the floodplain at its current location. Installation of telemetry apparatus within kiosk including ducting to the adjacent watercourse. Solar panel to be mounted on a pole at appropriate location on site.
