Summary of the contracting process

The Basildon Borough Council is currently engaged in a tender process for the "GB-Essex: Hospital Works Project," which focuses on building construction work. This project aims to enhance the main entrance of Basildon Hospital, making it more accessible and welcoming for staff, visitors, and patients. The contract, with an estimated value ranging from £1 million to £5 million, is at the planning stage and will run from 3rd September 2018 to 6th November 2019. The deadline for submission of initial tenders is 28th March 2018, and it is located in Essex, East of England.

This project presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the construction and retail sectors, particularly those with experience in hospital architecture and design. With a focus on creating amenities that enhance the hospital environment, businesses that can demonstrate a capability in managing construction works alongside retail development will be well-suited to compete. The importance of eco-friendly practices and innovative design will also appeal to potential bidders looking to support modern healthcare infrastructure.

Notice Title

GB-Essex: Hospital Works Project

Notice Description

NOTE: This notice was updated on 07 January 2019 for the following reason: The contract has now been withdrawn due to required changes(The project will deliver a high quality main entrance for Basildon Hospital, incorporating an element of retail services. The aim is to create an attractive and welcoming front entrance, providing improved services for staff, visitors and patients, commensurate with expectations of a modern hospital. The core objectives for the scheme are: *Develop a physical retail environment that incorporates significant remodelling to the Basildon Hospital Main Entrance *To create a high-quality environment that is welcoming to patients and visitors and offers on-site benefits to staff *Implement a retail strategy, as part of the wider commercial strategy, that make a significant contribution to non-clinical financial performance To achieve the high quality aims of the project, a new extension is proposed to the existing building, which relocates the front entrance to make it much more prominent and accessible, and crucially resolves confusing and conflicting routes between pedestrians, emergency vehicles and other highways users. The images attached depict the external realm of the new facilities and how they integrate with the surroundings. The scheme will also ensure the public realm spaces are designed to be complimentary and appropriate to a hospital, with landscaping that will soften the environment and create adequate provisions for the amount of dwell time that takes place around the front entrance. This project supports the Trust's wider Estates Strategy to develop and maintain excellent facilities for staff and patients whilst generating income from or reducing the cost of the estate. These aims will be met by developing facilities which both enhance the 'welcoming' environment for staff patients and visitors; improving access and safety for pedestrians and vehicles, with segregation of emergency and non-emergency vehicles and improving the services available to all site users by introducing commercial operators in the facility, which will generate the revenue to support the case for capital investment.) Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement. The access code for the PQQ is P7J3ZZ4C93. The contract ref is 302961512.
