Summary of the contracting process

The London Borough of Lewisham is planning the refurbishment of the Council-owned Lewisham Library situated at 199-201 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6LG. This procurement process is currently in the planning stage with a future notice anticipated for late November 2024. The major refurbishment, funded by the Government’s Levelling Up Fund (LUF), will transform the library into a flagship Culture and Business Hub, featuring enhanced library, heritage, and archive spaces, a business hub, meeting rooms, workspaces, and improved hospitality facilities. The contract period is expected to start in March 2025 and last for about 12-14 months, including a 12-month defect rectification period, under a Single Stage open tender process evaluated on cost, quality, and social value.

This refurbishment project presents a significant growth opportunity for businesses in the construction industry, particularly those with expertise in structural reinforcement, asbestos removal, HVAC systems, and bespoke joinery. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) are especially encouraged to participate. Successful bidders will gain the chance to showcase their work on a high-profile public project, paving the way for potential future contracts within the public sector. Experience with renovation projects and government contract compliances will be advantageous for companies looking to compete.
