Summary of the contracting process

The Cambridgeshire County Council is currently in the planning stage of the Care Home Design, Build & Operate Project, which aims to address the growing needs of its ageing population. The council is seeking to appoint a strategic partner or consortium to design, build, operate, and maintain new residential and nursing care home facilities across the East of England. The significant project involves the construction of up to 450 care beds, with a portion of these being dedicated to affordable placements for Council-funded services. Key date milestones include the engagement end date set for 23rd February 2018.

This procurement presents a valuable opportunity for construction firms, healthcare service providers, and organisations involved in social care. Businesses that specialise in designing and constructing care facilities, as well as those capable of managing and operating such establishments, would be particularly well-suited to compete. Engaging with the council during the early planning stages allows potential partners to better understand the project's parameters and contribute effectively to addressing the challenges of providing adequate care for older people in the region.

Notice Title

Cambridgeshire County Council Care Home Design, Build & Operate Project

Notice Description

Cambridgeshire is currently facing an increasing challenge to meet the current and future needs of its expanding population of older people. There are major pressures on the Council's statutory services and accommodation provision for older people, which is in turn putting pressure on financial budgets. With increases in population and inflation there will be a significant shortfall in suitable accommodation if the way in which services are delivered do not change. The Council must therefore transform its accommodation strategy for older people. The Council is therefore seeking to appoint a strategic partner or a consortium of partners to design, build, operate and maintain new residential and nursing care home provision for older people across the County. It is expected that up to 450 new care beds required will be delivered within newly built care homes with land that may be contributed by the Council. Of these 450 beds, 150 will be affordable for Council funded placements. Before formally entering into a procurement process, the Council would like to engage with potential providers to outline and discuss some of the parameters within which potential providers will be required to operate in order to meet the current challenges whilst meeting the current budget expectations.
