Notice Information
Notice Title
UK Delivery EU Ecolabel Regulation
Notice Description
1.1 The EU Ecolabel (also known as the Flower) is the official EU environmental product labelling scheme, and is a voluntary EU-wide scheme for products that meet tough environmental criteria. It was established in 1992 and has been revised a number of times, most recently in 2009 (Regulation (EC) No. 66/2010). 1.2 The scheme enables businesses to apply to use the scheme's flower logo to show that their product(s) meets high environmental standards. It is intended to encourage businesses to put on the market products which meet these standards, and make it easier for consumers to identify high performing products in environmental terms. 1.3 Thirty-four product groups have been developed so far, ranging from domestic products like laundry detergents and paints, to tourist accommodation and campsites. Product group criteria usually remain valid for between three and five years, depending on factors such as how quickly the technology is developing. At any one time, criteria may be being developed for several product groups, both new ones and revisions. 1.4 Participation in the scheme by companies is voluntary. The Ecolabel Regulation sets out the responsibilities of the Competent Body and also establishes the committee framework within which Member States consider aspects of the scheme and take decisions about it. 1.5 In the UK (by agreement with the administrations for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) the Competent Body is the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Potential Bidders are asked to submit Expressions of Interest to the Procurement Lead named on this notice by April 5th 1700BST in order to participate in a pre-market engagement event.
