Notice Description

The old Green Park Entrance to Valley Gardens on Valley Drive in Harrogate currently comprises one solitary gate post. This project is to re-create a proper entrance with two new stone gate posts with cast iron gates and shallow stone upstand walls on either side supporting railings. The disassembled stone gate posts are currently in HBC's Claro Road depot where they have been since the mid-1990s when they were removed from King's Road in Harrogate. Each post is in seven sections. The original cast iron gates are currently undergoing restoration in a local architectural metalworkers. The metalworkers will deliver the gates to site when required by the contractor. They do not form part of this contract except that the contractor is required to hang them on the posts towards the end of the project. Further information on this aspect appears later. Five original cast iron 'king posts' and 18 cast iron railings as shown on drawing GPG/CON/04 are to be refurbished and combined into the railing installation which will be predominantly made up of new mild steel railings. The king posts and cast iron railings are located locally in the same metalworkers as the gates, and will be delivered to site when required by the contractor. The tarmac in the vicinity of the new gate is to be taken up and replaced with paving.
