Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory is procuring a bench-top microwave digestion system aimed at automating the digestion of air quality samples while also offering versatility for various sample types. This tender, titled "RFQ - Microwave Digestion System," is currently in the Tender stage, with submissions due by 2nd August 2021. The procurement method employed is a limited competitive quotation, which falls below the threshold. The contract is expected to start on 30th August 2021 and last until 29th August 2022. The location for delivery is specified as Teddington, London, United Kingdom, and the project is categorised under laboratory, optical, and precision equipment.

This opportunity is well-suited for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specialising in laboratory equipment or environmental technology, as they can leverage their expertise in providing robust and reliable solutions for complex digestion processes. Companies with experience in the manufacture of programmable microwave systems that meet specific standards—such as BS EN 14902—will find this tender particularly relevant. Additionally, businesses that can offer trade-ins or existing consumables as part of their proposal are encouraged to compete, presenting a valuable opportunity to expand their market presence in the scientific equipment sector.

Notice Title

RFQ - Microwave Digestion System

Notice Description

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] requirement is for a bench-top microwave digestion system that can perform automated digestion of primarily air quality samples, but with the versatility to digest a wide range of sample types. The air quality samples are collected in the form of particulate matter <= 10 um diameter (PM10) sampled onto cellulose filter papers. These must be digested in compliance with the BS EN 14902 standard. Other sample types of potential interest for future work include other environmental matrices, pharmaceuticals, and food. The system must have the potential to use HF, but it is understood that this usually requires purchase of additional vessel assemblies. The microwave must be programmable for automated digestion runs of different temperatures and pressures, within the specification below. The microwave system and accessories must be well engineered for robustness and reliable digestion of samples without the need for frequent replacement of expensive parts/consumables such as vessel components. Options for trade ins, and certain existing consumables should be considered as per the specification provided. Additional information: Please do not contact the person listed on this notice. Documents can only be obtained through Bravo Solutions.
