Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the University of Exeter seeking to purchase a single quadrupole gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GCMS) and an accurate mass GCMS as part of the Upstream Thinking project, which focuses on water quality analysis in Devon and Cornwall. This open tender was published on 17th May 2022, with a submission deadline set for 16th June 2022. The successful contract will commence on 25th July 2022 and run until 24th July 2027. The contract falls under the goods category, specifically for mass spectrometers, and is located in the South West region of England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the scientific equipment sector, particularly manufacturers and suppliers specialising in analytical instruments. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) would be particularly well-suited to compete, considering the procurement's suitability for such businesses. This acquisition not only opens avenues for potential sales but also allows suppliers to engage in important environmental research contributing to water quality management.

Notice Title

The supply of 1 x single quadrupole GCMS and 1 x accurate mass GCMS

Notice Description

The project, Upstream Thinking, is a joint venture between the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Waste and Water (CREWW) and South West Water. This phase of the project centres on water quality in 8 catchments within Devon and Cornwall. We are looking for the capability to analyse for taste and odour compounds with high precision, mainly Geosmin and MIB at this time, but also to allow for the measurement of a wide range of compounds, which will future proof the equipment and increase the scope of the research going forward. To achieve this, we are looking to purchase a single quadrupole GCMS and an accurate mass GCMS.
